Gaggenau Kitchen Appliances - Oldest Appliance Brand in the World

!±8± Gaggenau Kitchen Appliances - Oldest Appliance Brand in the World

First of all some background on the company: Gaggenau was founded in 1681 by Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden. He established an ironworks in the German town Gaggenau, and named the company after the town. It is both the oldest and widest distributed appliance brand and over the years, Gaggenau expanded into the manufacture of coal-fired cookers and some of the first gas cookers. But technology has moved on considerably since then and Gaggenau embraced the changes and has been credited as the leader in introducing European convection ovens, the pyrolytic self-cleaning mode, and 36-inch ovens in North America.

Gaggenau's world headquarters is still located in the city of Gaggenau, Germany to maintain some of the tradition and history of the company. But Gaggenau kitchen appliances are manufactured in several countries across Europe and North America including Lipsheim, France, Bretten and Dillingen in Germany and Boston in Massachusetts.

Gaggenau has over 550 employees in 50 countries and is currently the only manufacturer that offers a combination steam oven with true convection plus multiple humidity settings in one unit for the home chef.

Gaggenau specialises in cutting-edge built-in home appliances. Its portfolio includes ovens, gas, electric and induction cook- tops, ventilation, dishwashers, modular refrigeration and freezer columns and wine storage units. Gaggenau also produces specialty appliances such as steamers, grills and deep fryers, and the Asian-influenced Teppan Yaki. These are more luxury items and available to customers with a big budget.

Now for some product information: Well some of the appliances that Gaggenau is particularly proud of are the Modular Column Refrigerators and Freezers. They have an unusual stainless steel interior and plenty of placement options. The fridges and freezers also have low energy consumption and quiet operation.

In their range of ovens, Gaggenau's BS 270 Combination Steam and Convection Oven combines the dry heat of convection with non-pressurized steam so that the shape, colour and nutrients and flavour of food are better preserved.

As regards hobs and cook- tops, the Vario 400 Series of Modular Cook- tops feature large, 15-inch Gaggenau kitchen appliances are designed to be able to fit into any size or style of kitchen, even the cosiest of kitchens.

Gaggenau also manufacture appliances for ventilation and the AT 400 Backsplash Ventilation eliminates vapours and odours directly at the point where they occur, which is on the cook- top. They are designed for island units and smaller kitchens and have very high ventilation power levels.

Gaggenau kitchen appliances do not just comprise of big products such as fridges and cookers. They also manufacture small kitchen appliances such as coffee machines. Quick Tips When Considering an Induction Cooktop Purchase

!±8± Quick Tips When Considering an Induction Cooktop Purchase

Due to the cost of induction cooktops few people were able to afford them until now. However, recent technological changes have brought the prices down to more affordable levels.

Lower prices are great news because of all that these cooktops have to offer. Plus they represent a more green solution to cooking more efficiently. You'll save time cooking with these induction cooktops. Continue reading to learn a few great tips for when you are ready to buy an induction cooktop appliance.

The first thing you'll want to consider when buying an induction cooktop is where to put it in your home. Just like buying a TV or even a toaster, you need a place to put it. Most people like to put their induction cooktop where their stove or oven is. But if you want to make a new home for your cooktop,, you will find that you have plenty more options than before. Also, the particular size of the unit will have a direct bearing on the number of inductive elements you will have. Most 36 inch cooktops have up to six elements on them. Most ovens and stoves sold these days come with only four burners or elements, and so six is a lot when you look at it that way.

One nice and unique feature of induction cooktops is the ability to customize the cooking surface area of the unit. The domino unit is what many refer to this function as. The function of the single and paired elements is what makes this possible.

You will no doubt pay more for these modules, but if you want to purchase for commercial application it's worth the extra money to be ready in advance. You will also need to make considerations for space for the additional module bases, as well. Of course we are discussing commercial applications, but it can also be used in the home if space is available.

When it comes to power and electrical considerations, you need to consult with a qualified electrician or appliance professional. You want wiring that is safe for 50 amps of current as a basic guideline, however. Obviously if you can do 60 amps, that is better. It all has to do with the cooking capacity of the cooktop you eventually get. Your unit won't be able to up to its full potential if you overbuy. Besides, you don't want to be constantly popping circuit breakers or blowing fuses all the time.

You can find out more about induction cooktops in our other articles and other places online. It is well worth your time and effort to learn as much as you can about these amazing cooktops. Many people have fallen in love with their induction cooktops and their ability to cook food incredibly fast. These cooktops can be cleaned quickly and easily. You will find, though, that there is not a huge variety on the market. More manufacturers are likely to get involved, however, as the market continues to grow and open up.

The Importance of Universal Design

!±8± The Importance of Universal Design

"Playing house" is one of most children's favorite pastimes, especially when the weather is perfect enough to spend hours at a time in an outdoor playhouse. All the neighborhood children gather and want to play except for one of the children. This child is confined to a wheelchair and simply can't fit inside the tiny plastic playhouse. Instead we have to play "house" on the patio or play other games. Although we try to accommodate this friend's wheelchair, it is bothersome that this friend could not share my special playhouse.

Over a decade later, the confined spaces of playhouses everywhere are giving way to universally designed playgrounds and spaces. Universal Design (UD) is largely defined as the process of creating products that are usable by people with the widest possible range of abilities. Simply put, it is moving beyond making specific things adequately accessible. Now barriers are being removed completely and seamlessly by creating flowing spaces that can be utilized by any person with or without assistance regardless of age or ability. It is making life simpler and more enjoyable for everyone.

Having evolved from the Accessible Design Movement of the 1970's to The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Universal Design of today has moved beyond public spaces and into the ranch style home plans of the average homeowner. It is not necessarily a movement, science, or a unique lifestyle, though those are popular ways of defining UD, rather it is a constantly evolving awareness of the need to provide usability to a greater extent. The average home in the United States is best suited for a a6'2" male around 25 years of age. Because of that, people have adapted themselves to these ill-fitting environments. However, Universal Design is better able to equip our homes to our needs. With life expectancies increasing world wide, now more than ever, people have the desire to age gracefully in their homes. Additionally, the average homeowner wants greater convenience, time efficiency and features that will integrate comfort and security.

Integrating Universal Design into your colonial home plan is not difficult. Start by simply reevaluating your home environment. Think about your every day tasks and what would make them easier for your family. Do you have a bad back that revolts every time the dishwasher needs emptying? What about when you trip on the front stoop every time you come home after dark? There are solutions to these common frustrations. Try incorporating slight design alterations such as the following into your home:

Installing front loading washers, dryers, and pull out dishwashers reduces strain and increases accessibility. Add efficient lighting: pathways, dedicated task spaces, nightlights, touch lights or rocker switches. Create a safe sloping walkway allowing seamless movement from the driveway to the interior of a home without the need to take a step. Make entrance spaces at least 5'x 5' and doors 36-inch wide for uninhibited movement. Purchase and install fire alarms/smoke detectors that flash, as well as sound, to ensure awareness regardless of sight or hearing abilities. Lever handles on doors or faucets and 'D' and 'C' shaped handles on drawers/pull-outs increase manageability. Walk-in tubs and barrier free shower floors are safer and expand usability. Grab bars can be located anywhere in the home without detracting from the decor. Knee spaces under counters increases comfort and convenience when attending to tasks.

Adjustable heights for any household items (ex: closet rods, counter tops, shower heads). High color contrasting increases visibility (ex: counter tops from counter edges). Ovens and cooktops with front controls prevent the need to reach over hot surfaces during use.

These are just a few of the many Universal Design concepts readily available for home use. After reviewing these ideas and evaluating your home, you may want to speak with your contractor about incorporating Universal Design. Your design professional may have further suggestions and can help you contact a User-Expert Designer. A Universal Design User-Expert is someone who is well acquainted with Universal Design and can discuss with you what concepts would likely benefit your lifestyle the most. User-Experts consult regularly with parents of small children, those living with disabilities of varying degrees, elderly involved with the Independent Living Movement, or anyone who uses and benefits from Universal Design. User-Experts continually working for the advancement of Universal Design into standard craftsman style home plans and can be extremely beneficial to your design process.

Flexibility is the most important aspect of Universal Design. Remember that technologies are always evolving and your lifestyle is similarly inclined to change at a moment's notice. Universal Design allows your home to transition with you as life happens rather than forcing you to work around frustrating barriers.

Electrolux EW30CC55GB 36-in Electric Induction Hybrid Cooktop

!±8± Electrolux EW30CC55GB 36-in Electric Induction Hybrid Cooktop

Electrolux Induction Cooktops come in two sizes, 30 inch and 36 inch. You can also chose from cooktops that are all induction or ones that are a combination of radiant and induction.

The Electrolux EW30CC55GB 36-in Electric Induction Hybrid Cooktop - Black is the most popular model of the two hybrids that they make. It features 10" and 6" Induction Elements.

At present Electrolux does not make an induction range with an oven, however I am sure they will be coming out with one in the near future.

Unlike conventional gas or electric stoves these magnetic cooktops do not directly produce heat. They also do not technically have burners like gas or electric, instead they are called hobs. These induction hobs create a magnetic field that reacts with the molecules in the iron based bottom pot or pan.

The pan heats up instantly! Unlike gas or electric cookers, induction is the most controllable heat in the world.

The Induction elements automatically detect the presence of magnetic cookware and activates the induction magnetic field and adjust it to the exact size of the pot or pan.

Magnetic cookware must be used on the induction hobs for it to work. Simply place a magnet to the bottom of the pan and if it sticks then you can use it. The other two electric burners can can use any type of cookware.

If you are ready to replace your old cooktop then this Electrolux Hybrid Cooktop is the way to go. You may want to consider going 100% induction and take the leap to 100% but the choice is yours.

In the long run induction will save you time, money, keep your kitchen cooler and safer. If everyone switched to induction cooktops then lives and property would be saved because house fires would dramatically decrease using this magnetic cooking technology.
